Penn College’s nursing laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility that creates an environment simulating a variety of clinical settings. The resources available to our nursing students facilitate the acquisition of nursing knowledge and skills, linking education and practice. Students participate in numerous learning activities requiring faculty supervision, independent assessment, and intervention.
Our lab is equipped with eight simulated hospital patient care settings; each are complete with an electronic bed, overbed table and bedside stand, blood pressure system, suction, air/oxygen outlets, and portable otoscopes and ophthalmoscopes.
Adult and pediatric mannequins are utilized in the lab.
Sim Man®, a sophisticated computerized simulation mannequin, is used to promote skill acquisition, decision making, and critical thinking and confidence. This state-of-the-art simulator breathes and has a pulse, blood pressure, and heart rhythms which can be programmed to simulate a wide range of illnesses. Students participate in simulated clinical scenarios which require assessments and responses to Sim-Man’s® physiological changes and verbal responses.
Cath-sim is a simulated intravenous system enabling students to practice procedures for all age groups with instant feedback related to technique.
