Construction Carpentry Certificate Program

Measuring the rafters

The Construction Carpentry program prepares students with job entry skills in the construction industry, specifically carpentry and masonry skills. Students develop skills in the correct use of hand tools, portable power tools, and portable power equipment. Curriculum is primarily lab based with full-size, hands-on projects in every phase of residential construction, including concrete, block, brick, and stone masonry, framing, interior and exterior finish, electrical and plumbing. Students gain experience through working on on-campus and off-campus construction projects under the supervision of qualified instructors. The third semester consists of an option of home remolding or commercial construction, depending on the student's are of interest.

Placement Rates and Average Salary:

According to the 2003/2004 Graduate Survey, 100% of the Construction Carpentry graduates were employed or continuing their education after graduation. The average annual salary was $21,933. Graduates enter the construction field as entry-level carpenters or masons in industry or apprenticeship programs.

Many will find employment in plants or factories where building units components or building materials are made or sold.
