This program is a two-plus-two bachelor's degree that accepts students with an associate's degree in HVAC, electrical, electronics, computer, or architectural areas.

Students with HVAC or related associate's degrees who enter the program will have to take a course in electronics. Students with electrical or related associate's degrees will have to take two courses in the principles of heating and cooling. All students take Building Automation Industry in their fifth semester, which introduces the students to the industry through field trips and guest speakers. Students are also encouraged to identify their summer internships during this course.

Students also complete a paid 350-400 hour internship between the third and fourth year of the program. In the fall senior seminar, students present a summary of their internship experience.

A senior project is completed by all students in the fourth year. The project is based on a problem that has a potential building automation solution and a detailed exposition of the solution. The problem or topic is identified in the fall and the solution and presentation of the solution takes place in the spring. Students are encouraged to pick topics for their senior project that are related to their summer internship experience.
