Dr. Asesh Das, Professor, Computer Science

Asesh Das

Asesh Das joined Pennsylvania College of Technology-- an affiliate of The Pennsylvania State University, in 1994. He received his Ph.D. in high energy nuclear physics in India and worked under the renowned quantum physicist, Dr. Partha Ghose. He earned an M.S. in computer science from Florida Institute of Technology. In this school he worked on computer soft errors with Dr. Jay Burns and on intelligent decision-making theories with Dr. Leonard Doyon. Asesh did two years of post-doctoral work in computer science and taught at the University of Tennessee Space Institute. In this school, he researched with Dr. Moonis Ali on computer-aided intelligent tutoring system. Their team worked also with Tennessee state education officers on developing computerized models on cognitive processes for students with learning difficulties.

Before coming to Penn College, Asesh was working and teaching with Dr. Ramana Reddy's artificial intelligence group in the West Virginia University. During this time he also worked for some time in HGO Technology, Inc., as a system analyst. While at the West Virginia University, he was awarded two consecutive summer faculty fellowships by the Wright Patterson Airforce Base in Dayton, Ohio, and researched on computer modeling of qualitative reasoning and on USAF's Integrated Information Maintenance System [IMIS].

Several Penn College students have research papers presented and published with Professor Das. He is specially very proud of the work done by one of his students, a Lycoming County Government officer, on the selection of inmate security devices, where she researched and applied a part of her system analysis project from a course taught by him. He also talks about the student paper on thin-client & intranet-based e-commerce presented in a National Aerospace & Electronics Conference and about the student paper enquiring the socio-cultural nature of ubiquitous computing architecture. Recently, he has researched and written papers with students on the application of storyboarding in software engineering technology.

Asesh is a regular popularizer and presenter of technical topics to the visiting 7th-12th grade students during the Penn College Outreach for K-12 Career Day activities in March and October, and his favorite subjects to present are cryptography and wireless computing technologies.

He has more than 50 research papers to his credit and a teaching experience of about 35 years.

For consecutively 4 times he has been nominated by his students to be listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers publications
