Civil Engineering Technology
Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.)

This curriculum is designed to equip graduates to face the challenge of modern engineering practice. The major emphasizes applications-based engineering studies involving the analysis of civil engineering/surveying projects. Modern approaches to the analysis of highways, structures, hydraulic systems, and site development are emphasized. The major also provides an overview of the field and prepares students for technician certification tests and for advanced study. This technical instruction with modern instrumentation, hardware, and software is reinforced with foundation courses emphasizing written and oral communication, and physical sciences. All of the instruction is presented with problem solving in mind and with a strong emphasis on applications and critical thinking.

By completing the additional math requirements of the Civil Engineering Technology bachelor degree (BCT) during the summer, graduates of the Civil Engineering Technology associate’s degree (CT) can complete the bachelor's degree within two years.

According to the most recent Penn College Graduate Survey (2012-13) the starting salary for Civil Engineering Technology associate degree graduates range from $25,000 to $42, 890. The average full-time salary was $34, 297. The survey had a response rate of 41.7% and was administered six months after graduation.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for construction and building inspectors was $54,450 in May 2013. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $32,850.The top 10 percent earned more than $85,410.
