Returning Student Housing Sign Up Instructions

All current students, including current on-campus residents, who wish to live in on-campus housing next fall, must complete a "Student Housing Contract" for the 2008-09 academic year.

How to Sign Up

To be considered for on-campus housing, you MUST:

  1. Complete an online "Student Housing Contract" (available on February 1, 2008, after 7 a.m. at www.pct.edu/sis)
  2. Submit the $300 housing and damage deposit* either by credit card when completing the online contract or by delivering payment to the Residence Life Office within two business days of submitting the contract

*If you currently live on campus, you only have to pay the $200 housing deposit. Your 2007-08 damage deposit will be transferred to your new contract. If your damage deposit is less than $100, you will be billed to maintain your full damage deposit.

About the Contract and Housing Options

On-campus housing is open to both new and returning students. Spaces are filled according to the order in which contracts are received. If you do not secure a room in the selection process, you will be placed on a waiting list. You are encouraged to submit the contract as soon as possible beginning February 1.

The Student Housing Contract is a legally binding agreement between you and the College and runs for the entire 2008-09 academic year. Once you have completed the contract and been assigned to on-campus housing, you may not choose to live off campus prior to the completion of the full academic year. We recommend that you take the time to read through the sample contract (PDF) prior to completing the online contract. Students graduating in December or who are in the Ford ASSET program need to complete a Short-Term Contract, not a full-year contract. Half-year contracts are also available for students only needing housing for the spring semester.

Meal Plan

Starting Fall 2008, all returning students residing on-campus must carry at least a 5-meal-per-week board plan. You can upgrade to a 10-meal-per-week or 14-meal-per-week board plan if desired. You will be prompted to select a board plan when submitting your housing contract. Pricing for the various plans are as follows:

The plan cost will be added to your tuition bill. Visit the Food Services Web site for more information on meal plans and dining services.

Roommates

If you would like to live with particular roommates next year, be sure to request your roommates after completing the contract and to have each roommate request each other as well. If your group fills an entire apartment, you will be given priority in terms of apartment assignment over singles or partial groups. If you sign up individually or with a partial group, you will be matched up with other returning students. While we cannot guarantee that you will receive all of your top choices, we will do our best to place you into an assignment that meets your needs.

Apartment assignments, roommate assignments, and roommate contact information will be posted on SIS in mid March. We recommend that you make contact with your roommates after receiving your assignment so that you can begin discussing logistics for your apartment.

Short-term Contracts

Penn College offers a limited number of short-term contracts to students graduating in December 2008 (Fall Semester Only contracts) and students in the Ford ASSET program (8 Week contracts). To complete a short-term contract:

  1. Pay the housing deposit in the Residence Life Office (starting January 31, 2008, at 7 a.m.).
  2. Complete the online contract.

Apartment assignment will be determined by the order in which the housing deposit is paid.

Single Rooms

If you currently live in a single apartment, you will be given the opportunity to reside in the same apartment during 2008-09 and will need to complete the online contract requesting a single apartment. Since there are a limited number of single apartments, the remaining apartments will be assigned by lottery. If you are interested in requesting an available single apartment, pick up an application in the Residence Life Office from January 14-21, 2008. Students who are drawn will be awarded a single apartment contingent upon completing the housing contract and payment of the housing deposit by January 30, 2008. The single apartment housing rate was $3,175 per semester in 2007-08 and is predicted to be slightly more in 2008-09.

Apartment Availability

To better address the needs of new students, we will be setting aside specific housing sections for new students and other sections for returning students. After completing the contract, you will need to log into SIS prior to February 18 and indicate your living habits and complex preference. You will also be asked if you have a preference for a particular apartment. We recommend choosing from the list of apartments open to returning students. However, if a group (3 or more students for a 4-person apartment, 2 students for a 2-person apartment) would like to return to their current apartment and it is not listed, these students may submit a request for the same apartment and it will be considered. As stated previously, students who form groups large enough to fill an entire apartment will be given priority over singles or partial groups in terms of assignment to a particular apartment.

Rates

Rates for the 2008-09 year for each apartment style will be decided on by the Board of Directors in late December and will be posted on the Residence Life Web site in early January.
