Message from the vice president for academic affairs/provost
Scheduling requires your close attention to deadlines and to the information and help available to you.
Step 1: schedule an appointment with your adviser - Yes, you do need to see your adviser for the advice/direction that the adviser – who best knows your major – can provide. While it is true that you are ultimately responsible for making the right choices, following the course sequence, and completing all requirements, the adviser can help you to identify courses that best suit your needs/interests. More importantly, you will have the advantage of additional information: potential work-based experiences, courses that satisfy a Humanities or a Social Science requirement, prerequisites that might block you from enrolling in a specific course, etc. As before, you must get your scheduling profile – available only from your adviser. You need it to know when you can go on-line to process your schedule. It would not be wise to skip this meeting and deprive yourself of valuable assistance. Missing a course can add a semester to your completion of the major.
Step 2: you submit your schedule - You may process your schedule in the privacy of your home or in a lab or on your laptop while you sit in the library. However, if you are not comfortable scheduling online, the Advisement Center – their staff and Registrar's office staff – will be available as before. You may choose either means of processing your schedule.
So—why do I need to read the scheduling information? On the scheduling Web pages are information segments and announcements that will help you to stay within College policy and to meet important deadlines. You will also find the Schedule Worksheet (PDF) to use for a “rough draft.”
