College Names Directors of Physician Assistant, Surgical Technology

Sarah W. Worman Scott A. Geist The School of Health Sciences at Penn College recently appointed directors for its surgical technology and physician assistant programs. Scott A. Geist was named director of the surgical technology program. Following a long career in the Navy, Geist was, most recently, surgical technology program director at Concorde Career College, Memphis, Tenn. Sarah W. Worman joins the staff as director of the physician assistant program. Worman brings a variety of experience, most recently as a research interviewer for the New England Research Institute. In the educational setting, she was interim clinical coordinator, as well as clinical preceptor and academic coordinator, for the physician assistant program at Cuyahoga Community College, Parma, Ohio.

College Hosts Camps for High Schoolers Interested in Health Careers

EMT-Paramedic Camp Health Careers Camp Penn College hosted nearly 50 high school students on its campus on June 16-17 to learn about a variety of health careers. The college’s School of Health Sciences offered two activities: Health Careers Camp and EMT-Paramedic Camp, both of which were open to students entering grades nine to 12. The camps offered hands-on workshops and opportunities to network with Penn College students and faculty, as well as working professionals in the health-care industry.

School of Health Sciences Holds In-Service for Preceptors

Darby Lewes, an English faculty member at Lycoming College, offered a workshop titled “Portrait of a Student as a Young Wolf: Motivating Students.” The school offers the in-service annually to its preceptors, who can earn continuing education units for their attendance.

Surgical Technologists Recognized

Penn College's School of Health Sciences and its surgical technology program join in observing National Surgical Technologist Week (Sept. 21-27). The surgical technologist is an allied health professional who provides care to surgical patients throughout an operative procedure. It is an occupation that requires attention to detail and precise manual dexterity. Surgical technologists play an integral part of the surgical team to ensure patient safety and that the surgery has been conducted under optimal conditions. Please help the school celebrate National Surgical Technologist Week to honor these professionals.

Surgical Technology Major Earns National Accreditation

Penn College's surgical technology major recently earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
