A student in Pennsylvania College of Technology's four-year accounting major has been awarded a scholarship from the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, which also recognized two recent magna cum laude graduates as "Outstanding Seniors.”

Nicole M. Giersdorf, of Williamsport, was chosen to receive a $3,000 multiyear scholarship from PICPA, an association of more than 20,000 certified public accountants working to improve the profession and better serve the public interest. Founded in 1897, it is the second-oldest CPA organization in the United States.

Scholarships are presented on a competitive basis to candidates who best satisfy the requirements of high intellectual capacity, leadership potential, financial need and intent to pursue a career in accounting, according to the association. Giersdorf’s award can be renewed annually until the completion of her degree, provided she remains a full-time student, maintains a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and meets any other renewal requirements.

Honored among seniors from across the commonwealth were Andrew N. Kroft, of Dover, and Hannah M. Yates, of Williamsport, both of whom graduated in May from the college’s bachelor-degree accounting major. The award is given to seniors at Pennsylvania institutions – nominated by faculty members – who shine in academia, express a serious interest in accounting and demonstrate a desire to continue in the accounting field. Winners receive a certificate, recognition medal and a free, one-year accounting affiliate membership to PICPA.

Penn College's accounting majors, among the offerings of the School of Business and Computer Technologies, are dually accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education and the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs.
