James C. Gorham, of Mill Hall, has been chosen by Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Student Government Association’s as the first Student of the Month of the Fall 2009 semester.

Gorham, a senior in the college’s four-year plastics and polymer engineering technology major, is the vice president of the Society of Plastics Engineers.

“James is a hard worker who really enjoys his major,” his nominator wrote. “He even goes to the extent of working for the Plastics Manufacturing Center in his ‘spare time’ to improve the plastics program at the college.”

Gorham is an avid hunter, fisher, skier and golfer; serves on the board of The Common Place, a Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Lock Haven; and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society for two-year students. (He earned his associate degree in plastics and polymer technology in 2007.)

In addition to the honor, Gorham's recognition will include a six-day pass to the Fitness Center, a "wooden nickel" good for a large cheese pizza and soda at Penn Central, and a Penn College Pride sweatshirt.

The Student of the Month is selected seven times each academic year based on commitment, service, role-model behavior, academics, leadership and campus involvement. Nominations from faculty/staff and other students are strongly encouraged.
