Penn College Wildcat Tales
The Pennsylvania College of Technology coed archery team completed its indoor season last weekend with an outstanding effort by taking three team and three individual first-place finishes.

During competition at the U.S. Indoor Eastern Regionals at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., Glen Thomas (sophomore/Mercer) won in male recurve, Kyle Bennett (freshman/Bellefonte) won in male bowhunter and Zachary Plannick (junior/Coraopolis) won in male compound. In addition to winning the male recurve, Thomas also placed third in male compound.

Teamwise, the Wildcats finished first in male recurve, competing were Thomas, Tyler Gale (junior/Kennedyville, Md.) and James Fanelli (senior/Glastonburg, Conn.); first in male compound, competing were Plannick, Dan Wido (sophomore/Shickshinny) and Brad Ferguson (senior/Lewistown), and first in mixed compound, competing were Plannick, Wido, Lindsey Fackler (senior/Halifax) and Julie Cain (sophomore/Bellefonte).

“We had a great U.S. Indoor, especially taking the top four individual places in men’s compound and Plannick and Wido scoring more than 1,180 points was really phenomenal. I’m very, very pleased with the way the season is starting out. It’s looking good for the outdoor season,” said coach Chad Karstetter, in his 10th year. He is assisted this year by former Penn College archer Brian Parker, a teammate of Karstetter’s for three seasons during the late 1990s.

Baseball
Mark Shaffer (Hanover) tossed a complete-game two-hitter and Ethan Boyd (Roaring Springs) went 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs as the Wildcats won their season-opener Sunday against Penn State Harrisburg, 6-0. In the nightcap at Bowman Field, the Wildcats won, 3-2.

Softball
Penn College won its season opener Sunday at Elm Park against Penn State Harrisburg, 4-2, but lost the second game, 9-6, after leading 6-3.

Men’s Volleyball
The Wildcats closed out a perfect 11-0 regular season Saturday by beating Lebanon Valley in three sets, 25-13, 25-17 and 25-22. Next up will be the Middle Atlantic Club Volleyball Conference Championships on Saturday at Rowan (N.J.) University.
