New Scholarship Honors Former Hartman Group President, Wife

A new scholarship fund at Penn College honoring a Linden-area man and his wife will support students in the college’s business administration bachelor-degree majors. The Henry and Donna Stutz Scholarship Fund was established by The Hartman Group, a company consisting of The Hartman Agency Inc., Hartman Employee Benefits Inc. and Hartman Financial Services, operating out of offices in Williamsport, State College and Duncannon. The scholarship honors the former president of The Hartman Group and his wife. “Hank Stutz is very committed to a technical, knowledge-based approach to property and casualty insurance and to the development of knowledge within the insurance industry,” said Michael P. Gaetano, president of The Hartman Agency Inc. “His devotion to education in the industry is now further extended to a college scholarship fund to recognize him and his wife, Donna, in support of students at Penn College.”
Authenticity Essential Ingredient for Visiting Chef

Students in Penn College's School of Hospitality worked alongside Sabrina LaRosa, who traveled from her home and her mother’s cooking school in Calabria, Italy, to teach students the recipes and techniques of authentic southern Italian cuisine. Her visit culminated with a Visiting Chef dinner on Friday, which raised funds for annual scholarship awards.
Former President Establishes Scholarship Fund at Penn College

A former president of Penn College’s immediate predecessor institution has established an endowed scholarship fund that will encourage student leadership in the community. Bill Feddersen served as president of Williamsport Area Community College from 1974-80. The Dr. Bill Feddersen Leadership Scholarship Fund he has established at Penn College is open to full-time students in any major who demonstrate academic performance and financial need, with an added requirement that applicants demonstrate leadership within the community – either during high school or as a student at the college. “Through this endowed scholarship I hope to both promote and recognize student leadership, while helping students afford the quality education provided at Penn College,” Feddersen said. “I have watched the college continue to grow and develop over the years and am grateful for the opportunity to have served the college during the 1970s.”
HRI Inc. Establishes Scholarship at Penn College

A State College highway and heavy construction firm has established a scholarship fund to support students in several majors at Penn College. The HRI Inc. Scholarship Fund will give preference for awards to full-time students who have completed at least two semesters in the construction management or civil engineering bachelor-degree majors or the civil engineering technology, surveying technology, heavy construction equipment technology (operator emphasis or technician emphasis) or diesel technology associate-degree majors at the college.
Grainger Foundation Supports Scholarships at Penn College

The Grainger Foundation has donated $10,000 to the Penn College Foundation for scholarship awards. The donation has been distributed as five scholarship awards of $2,000 each to current students in the manufacturing engineering technology, welding and fabrication engineering technology, HVAC design technology, construction management, and diesel technology majors. "We are grateful to the Grainger Foundation for its generosity in providing scholarship support for the students at Penn College,” said Debra M. Miller, Penn College's director of corporate relations. “Scholarship support is an excellent way to directly assist our students by helping them cover the costs of their education.”
Visiting Chef Series to Feature Cuisine of Southern Italy

Southern Italy native Sabrina LaRosa will lend her expertise to students during the next installment of the Visiting Chef Series at Penn College. During her visit, she will instruct School of Hospitality students in rustic Italian cooking techniques, culminating with an elegant five-course Visiting Chef Dinner, produced and served by the students under LaRosa’s direction, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4. LaRosa’s Nov. 2 public cooking demonstration is sold out.
Entries Sought for Student-Sponsored Homecoming Car Show

Penn College students, employees and alumni – as well as members of the general public – are welcome to enter their vehicles in the annual Homecoming Car Show sponsored by the Student Government Association. This year’s event, offering prizes in 12 categories, will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, on the college's main campus in Williamsport. “The SGA Homecoming Car Show is a great way to help give back to Penn College students,” association President Gregory J. Miller said. “All proceeds will benefit the Student Leader Legacy Scholarship Fund, set up to provide financial assistance to student leaders each year.”
Penn College Education Association Establishes Scholarship Fund

The organization representing full-time faculty, librarians and counselors at Penn College is further supporting students by establishing an endowed scholarship fund. The Penn College Education Association Scholarship Fund will generate at least two awards each year, one each for a male and a female student. “We have an excellent faculty at Penn College, and it gives me a great deal of pleasure to see the Penn College Education Association support this endowed scholarship fund for our students,” said PCEA President James E. Temple. “This is just another example of what a caring faculty we have at Penn College."
School of Hospitality to Host Wine Expert, Pairing Event

In a learning opportunity for Penn College students and a benefit for scholarship funds, the college will host a “California Food and Wine Pairing” event, featuring a gourmet “California fusion” menu created by students in the School of Hospitality, paired with selections from the Eberle Winery in Paso Robles, Calif. Gary Eberle, the winery’s founder, will be on hand for the Oct. 12 event, describing each wine’s characteristics as diners compare each course’s wine and food pairings. During his visit to campus, he will lecture in wine-and-beverage management and hospitality management classes.
5K Race to Raise Scholarship Funds for Health Sciences Students

Penn College’s School of Health Sciences will host a 5K Walk/Run on Oct. 8 as part of the college’s Homecoming festivities. Net proceeds from the race will support the School of Health Sciences Endowed Scholarship Fund, which benefits the school’s students. Fundraising efforts for the scholarship are coordinated by School of Health Sciences faculty and staff. The race is set to begin at 9 a.m. at the college's main entrance off Maynard Street. Registration will take place from 7:30-8:45 a.m. The cost to register before Oct. 7 is $15. Race-day registration is $20.
