Unique “groundbreaking” ceremonies were held Jan. 6 for the Roger and Peggy Madigan Library that will be constructed at the main entrance of Pennsylvania College of Technology. Participants watched through third-floor windows of the Student and Administrative Services Center as the footprint of the building was outlined with a string of lights and a fireworks display commenced. Inside, remarks were delivered by College President Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour; Board Chairman Dr. Robert E. Dunham; Rep. Brett O. Feese, a member of the Board of Directors who was instrumental in securing $7 million in state funding for the project; and state Secretary of General Services Donald T. Cunningham Jr., who toured campus prior to the ceremony. A portrait of Sen. Madigan and his late wife – which will hang in the library upon its completion in the summer of 2006 – was unveiled, as well.
