Angela D. Rymer and Kirk M. Allen, representing the Student Government Association, were crowned Homecoming queen and king during Saturday's "Rhythm of the Night" dance sponsored by the Residence Hall Association in Penn's Inn.

The pair raised nearly $570 to lead the competition among students and their chosen charities, meaning the entire amount raised – nearly $2,014 – will go to the winners' designated beneficiary: the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life."

Rounding out the top five couples:

  • Catherine V. McCall and James E. Rottmund, College West RAs, $424

  • Tacy L. De Green and Guston J. Bird, Campus View RAs, $167

  • Sara D. Rust and Bradley R. Moyer, SWORD, $146

  • Jamie L. Lear and Carl F. Gravely, Phi Theta Kappa, $133.

Congratulations to the staff/faculty team for its Homecoming victory over its student competition: Dale E. Jaenke, Chester E. Rogers, Christopher J. Leigh, Edward A. Henninger, Bryan J. Waltz, Gallahad E. Mallery, Shawn P. McGehean, Eric D. Ranck, Daniel R. Little and Mark Cosby. The staff/faculty team was coached by Mike Stanzione.

The staff/faculty team defeated the student team 84-71 in a "major upset" Friday night, breaking a five-year student win streak and marking only the second time in seven years that students have been defeated.

The staff/faculty team led at halftime 37-33 and outscored the students in the second half by nine points. "Most Valuable Player" Edward A. Henninger (staff/faculty) led all scorers with 29 points. Teammates Christopher J. Leigh and Gallahad E. Mallery added 17 and 16 points, respectively.

"Gallahad set the tone for the game, playing with a lot of intensity," reported Lisa J. Worth, athletic assistant. "I do not think the student team was prepared for the staff team to play so well on offense and defense." (A rematch already has been requested by the student coach.)

The student team had four players in double figures. James W. Smith, (17); Richard A, Ferrer and Michael P. Podobinski (14 each) and Matthew O. Pettengill (13).
