Medical (Office) Assistant Class to Begin at North Campus

For those interested in beginning a career in the exciting field of health care, the next medical assistant class at Penn College’s North Campus near Wellsboro will begin in October. The daytime program – designed specifically for the North Campus by Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College – consists of 800 hours of classroom instruction and 160 hours in a medical-office setting. The class begins on Oct. 5 and ends on June 25.

North Campus Practical Nursing Program Receives Accreditation

The practical nursing program at Penn College’s North Campus has been approved for initial accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Accreditation provides recognition that a program has been evaluated by a qualified, independent group of competent peers who have found it to meet appropriate higher-education criteria in a satisfactory manner.

Medical Assistant Class to Begin in August at North Campus

The next Medical Assistant class at Penn College’s North Campus, located three miles east of Wellsboro, is scheduled to begin Aug. 31. The medical assistant program consists of classroom and laboratory instruction to prepare participants to perform general administrative, receptionist and basic clinical procedures in doctor’s offices, clinics, medical facilities and human-service agencies. Medical assistants primarily work in outpatient settings, keeping offices and clinics running smoothly.

Medical Assistants Complete WDCE Program

A graduation ceremony was held recently for students completing the medical (office) assistant program offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College. Thirteen students completed the program, a nine-month clock-hour training that prepares participants for employment in medical offices and clinics.

North Campus Practical Nursing Students Receive Scholarships

Penn College’s North Campus has received four grants totaling more than $46,000 to award scholarships to participants enrolled in its practical nursing program, which begins annually in January.

North Campus Instructor Presents at Practical Nursing Conference

George Ann Foreman An instructor at Penn College’s North Campus made a presentation at the Spring 2009 Pennsylvania Association of Practical Nursing Administrators conference in Lewisburg. George Ann Foreman, instructional specialist for Workforce Development & Continuing Education at the North Campus Outreach Practical Nursing Program, presented “Critical Thinking Activities for the Clinical Setting” to 50 practical nursing instructors and coordinators from Pennsylvania for a “Best Practices” session on May 5.

North Campus Practical Nursing Program to Host Open House

Penn College’s North Campus, just east of Wellsboro, will host an open house on Monday, April 27, for those interested in nursing as a career. The 6-7:30 p.m. event will feature information sessions about the application process, tuition and financial aid. Visitors will be able to view the nursing lab and classroom, as well as attend sessions at 6 or 7 p.m. to have their questions answered by the coordinator of practical nursing.

North Campus to Offer Basic Computer Classes

Penn College’s North Campus near Wellsboro is offering several easy-to-learn computer classes beginning this month. The small, noncredit classes – Basic Keyboarding Skills, Computer Camp for Seniors and  Basic Microsoft Excel 2007 – are taught by qualified instructors at a comfortable pace for all levels of adult learners. The small, noncredit classes are held in a relaxed, computer-lab environment allowing students to learn, experiment and ask questions throughout the evening.

Students to Provide Taxpayer Assistance at North Campus

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, in which Penn College students prepare income-tax returns at no cost, will offer three Fridays of by-appointment-only help to Northern Tier residents this season. The program will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 20, March 20 and April 3 at the college's North Campus, along Route 6 between Wellsboro and Mansfield.
