Penn College Authorized Provider for Shell Bluebook Orientation

The Marcellus Shale Education & Training Center at Penn College is offering a Shell Bluebook Orientation noncredit course. The MSETC is an authorized provider for the training, which is presented at the Center for Business & Workforce Development on the college’s main campus in Williamsport and at the college’s North Campus near Wellsboro. The four-hour safety-awareness orientation instructs students on Shell’s systematic approach for meeting and exceeding compliance with the law; management of health, safety and environmental risks; and continuous improvement. The training describes the Shell Golden Rules and the company’s 12 Life-Saving Rules.

North Campus Holds Ceremony for Practical Nursing Graduates

Nursing graduation held at North Campus Fifteen students graduated from the noncredit practical nursing program at Penn College’s North Campus on Dec. 15. Graduates completed 1,504 clock hours of classroom and clinical instruction, with clinical experiences obtained at Laurel Health System, Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center and other area facilities. They are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses and may be employed in hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, hospice, schools and other health-care organizations.

North Campus Offers Computer Classes in October, November

For those looking to sharpen their computer skills while learning something new, Penn College’s North Campus near Wellsboro is offering several easy-to-learn computer courses in October and November. The courses are taught by qualified instructors at a comfortable pace for all levels of adult learners. The small, noncredit classes are held from 6 to 9 p.m. in a relaxed computer- classroom environment, allowing participants to learn, experiment and ask questions. Courses are hands-on, with each participant working at a computer station.

Management Consultant to Speak at North Campus

Two management seminars – “Social Networking for Business” and “Managing Multiple Priorities, Projects and Deadlines” – will be held Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Penn College’s North Campus near Wellsboro. Dennis E. Gilbert, organization development consultant and president of Appreciative Strategies LLC, will be the featured speaker.

‘Train the Trainer’ Certificate to Be Offered at North Campus

Penn College’s North Campus will offer a “Train the Trainer” certificate program developed for adults who are responsible for training staff in their place of work or for individuals seeking trainer positions. Through the noncredit program, inexperienced trainers and seasoned professionals alike can learn interactive ways to reach adult participants. The classes will be offered at the North Campus – located on Route 6 between Wellsboro and Mansfield – from 3-6 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 12 to Nov. 16. The cost is $389 and includes all course materials.

North Campus to Offer Computer, Digital-Photography Courses

Adults 55 and older who want to learn more about using computers for fun or for digital photography may enroll in noncredit courses being offered at Penn College’s North Campus near Wellsboro. The easy beginners’ classes, offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College, introduce the computer for enjoyment purposes. No computer knowledge is necessary to enroll. The basic computer class will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on Wednesdays, Sept. 21 and 28; a basic digital-photography class will be offered from 9 a.m.-noon Wednesdays, Oct. 5 and 12.

Penn College North Campus Offers Medical Billing Classes

Penn College’s North Campus is offering classes for a medical billing and coding specialist certificate. The billing and coding classes are for those interested in obtaining the skills needed to work in the handling of proper insurance claims in a physician’s office or medical insurance company using CPT and ICD-9-CM for coding. Students must complete 132 hours to sit for the National Healthcareer Association certification exam. The noncredit classes will be offered from 4:30-7:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 13-March 15 at the campus, three miles east of Wellsboro.

Medical Assistant Program Offered at Main Campus, North Campus

Penn College is offering two medical assistant programs beginning in mid-September. The noncredit course will be offered at the main campus in Williamsport and at the North Campus, three miles east of Wellsboro. Employment of medical assistants is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations as the health-services industry expands. Due to technological advances in medicine and a growing and aging population, medical assistant is one of the fastest-growing occupations.

North Campus Practical Nursing Program Seeks Applicants

The practical nursing program at Penn College’s North Campus near Wellsboro is scheduling pre-admission testing for the next class, which begins in January. Pre-admission testing must be completed before the application process begins. All applications must be submitted by Oct. 1. The yearlong, full-time program is offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College. It prepares graduates for career opportunities in area hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, personal-care facilities and human-service organizations.
