Fitness, Lifetime Sports Faculty Member Presents Talks

Paul A. 'Babe' Mayer In the space of four weeks early this summer, Paul A. “Babe” Mayer, associate professor of fitness and lifetime sports at Penn College, was the go-to speaker for four organizations. He was selected as keynote speaker at the Loyalsock Township High School Girls Basketball Awards Banquet and at the Annual District IV All-Star Football Game Banquet, presented twice at the Pennsylvania State Strength & Conditioning clinic, and served on a writer's panel when the college hosted the Sport Literature Association’s annual conference.

Professor Presents Paper at Conference for Economists

Abdul B. Pathan Abdul B. Pathan, professor of economics at Penn College, recently presented a paper at the Pennsylvania Economic Association annual conference. The paper, titled “Successful Teaching of Economics Principles to Beginning Students,” discussed strategies for preparing lectures and for keeping students motivated throughout the lecture. Pathan also served as a discussant for a student session on economic development, while Gerald “Chip” Baumgardner, associate professor of business administration/management, served as chair and discussant for a session on public economics. The conference was held June 3-5 at Grove City College.

Assistant Professor’s Outreach Boosts Seniors’ Computer Literacy

Daniel W. Yoas A faculty member in Penn College’s School of Business and Computer Technologies recently helped a regional computer club traverse the often-overwhelming terrain of technological innovation. Daniel W. Yoas, an assistant professor of computer information technology, met with members of Susquehanna SeniorNet during one of their meetings at James V. Brown Library. The organization was formed in the late 1990s as a means of educating area seniors about the Internet, e-mail, word processing and other computer programs.

Two From Penn College Selected to Present at ACHA Annual Meeting

Elliott Strickland Carl L. Shaner Two Penn College administrators were chosen to present at the American College Health Association’s 2010 Annual Meeting, held June 1-5 in Philadelphia. Carl L. Shaner, student health center director, and Elliott Strickland, special assistant for student affairs and student development, were selected to present on the college’s Impaired Student Recovery Area. The presentation, “Developing and Maintaining an Impaired Student Recovery Area on Campus,” focused on the impact and benefits of the ISRA on the college and the community, as well as associated liability issues.
