David A. London, 57, an associate professor of speech communication/composition in the Communication and Literature Department within the School of Integrated Studies at Pennsylvania College of Technology, died Saturday, May 3. London, who was also a former chair of College Council, began his employment with Penn College in January 1990.

Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour said the college’s “My Last Words” lecture series will be renamed the “David London My Last Words Lecture Series” in his honor.

“This will be a fitting legacy for David and his work across campus to positively influence students and our greater community,” Gilmour said.

In addition, the School of Integrated Studies and the Communication and Literature Department will establish a student scholarship in London’s name through the Penn College Foundation.

The Penn College flags have been lowered to half-staff, and a memorial brick will be placed in London’s honor in the Remembrance Garden.

London also taught graduate courses in continuing education for The Pennsylvania State University. In addition, he worked with labor unions across Pennsylvania, conducting workshops in communication and negotiation, as well as newsletter publishing. Previously, he taught at Council Rock High School, Newtown, and Middleburg High School.

He was a member of the National Communication Association, the National Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Speech Communication Association of Pennsylvania. A graduate of Shikellamy High School, he received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Bloomsburg University. He completed his doctoral work at Penn State.

Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland. Contributions may be made to: Otterbein United Methodist Church, Fourth and Vine Streets, Sunbury, PA 17801. Arrangements were handled by the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury.
