A faculty member at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently gave the keynote address at the 11th International Conference on Ethics Across the Curriculum.
William J. Astore, associate professor of history in the School of Integrated Studies at Penn College, offered the address “Civility: First Refuge of the Patriot?” It reinforced the conference’s theme of strengthening civil discourse in the United States.
The conference, which was held Nov. 12-15, was hosted by the Society for Ethics Across the Curriculum at Rochester Institute of Technology. The organization’s purpose is to stimulate scholarship on ethics and the teaching of ethics in all academic disciplines and to afford an opportunity for the exchange of research.
Astore holds a doctorate in modern history from the University of Oxford. He has taught military cadets at the Air Force Academy and officers at the Naval Postgraduate School. His books and articles, focusing primarily on military history, include “Hindenburg: Icon of German Militarism” (Potomac Press, 2005).
