Economics Professor Presents Paper on Child Labor

At the annual conference of the Pennsylvania Economic Association, Abdul B. Pathan, professor of economics at Pennsylvania College of Technology, presented a paper regarding child labor.

Pathan’s paper, “Child Labor in Developed and Developing Nations: Some Comparisons,” discussed how child labor was and still is being used by various businesses in many countries to save money and make profit under exploitative situations.

The conference was held June 5-7 at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Economic Association is a professional organization of economists and allied social scientists in Pennsylvania and neighboring states. Approximately 70 papers are presented and discussed at the association’s annual conference.

Pathan holds a doctorate from the University of Houston and master’s degrees from Williams College in Massachusetts and Dhaka University in Bangladesh. He has taught at Penn College since 1987.
