Three of College’s Teams Excel in Global Business Strategy Game

In an unprecedented measure of the institution’s success in an international business-simulation competition, three teams of Penn College students recently finished in the Top 100. "There are 4,155 teams competing on a worldwide basis, (and) we had three teams in the top 100!" said Gerald D. "Chip" Baumgardner, associate professor of business administration. "Quite a feat, given the level of competition.”
Timothy R. Cotter Named 'Student of the Month' for March

Timothy R. Cotter, of St. Marys, who next month will add a bachelor’s degree in technology management to his associate degree in mass communications, has been chosen as the March “Student of the Month” by the Student Government Association at Penn College. Operations manager at WPTC (88.1 FM), the college radio station, and host of its "Time Capsule Radio” program from 6-8 p.m. Mondays, Cotter is a student video production assistant with College Information & Community Relations. This semester, he is teaching the Radio Station Operation and Production labs and holds a part-time position with a communications company back home. “Tim has been a tremendous assistant to the faculty adviser of WPTC-FM because of his technical skills, combined with organizational abilities,” one of his nominators wrote. “I can count on him!"
Alumnus Speaks at Career and Technical Education Week Event

A recent Penn College alumnus who participated in a program that offered college courses in his home high school was invited to speak at the state Career and Technical Education Recognition Breakfast in Harrisburg. John T. Lipko, who graduated from Penn College with a bachelor’s degree in technology management in December, spoke to an audience of more than 200 high school students, along with school administrators and state legislators, at the breakfast held in conjunction with the state’s Career and Technical Education Week activities at the state Capitol.
Students Gain Employability Edge in Passing Pesticide Exam

Eight Penn College students – seven horticulture majors and an alumnus of the School of Natural Resources Management re-enrolled for his bachelor's degree – increased their marketability by passing the Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator Certification exam Nov. 20.
Alumnus Featured in Lancaster Newspaper Article

Penn College alumnus Nathaniel L. Baum, who holds degrees in landscape/nursery technology (2003) and technology management (2005), is featured in a recent article in the (Lancaster) Sunday News. The article touts the energy- and cost-saving benefits of a reflective roof coating at the Lititz headquarters of Susquehanna Bancshares Inc., where Baum is facility supervisor. While at Penn College, Baum was honored as "Resident Assistant of the Year" in 2005, served as president of the National Residence Hall Honorary (an organization recognizing the top 1 percent of students living on campus), was a Student Government Association senator, and was inducted into Alpha Chi (the honor society for baccalaureate-degree students), Phi Theta Kappa (an international society for academic achievement), and Sigma Beta Delta (an honor society for business students).
Penn College Business Students Tour New York Stock Exchange

Fifteen Penn College students recently received the requisite security clearance to tour the New York Stock Exchange, an almost-unheard-of consideration amid ongoing and intensive national vigilance. “The students conducted themselves to the highest professional standard and demonstrated their knowledge of markets and business in general. I was very impressed," said Roy A. Fletcher, assistant professor of business administration/banking and finance.
Penn College Students Survey Manufacturers’ Use of Technology

A group of Penn College students recently surveyed area manufacturers about their use of technology, coming away with a heightened appreciation of the region’s industrial assets – and the challenges that face those doing business in Central Pennsylvania.
Three of them – Melissa A. Miller, a technology management major from Montoursville; Joseph R. Raup, of Trout Run, enrolled in business administration: small business and entrepreneurship; and Mahdi E. Shaji, of Turnersville, N.J. , also majoring in technology management – presented their findings Wednesday during a “Regional Technology Snapshot” event at Lycoming College.
