Students Compete in Radiography ‘Technibowl’

Five radiography students at Penn College – Tammy M. Bergquist, of Montoursville; Natasha A. Mapes, of Mifflinburg; Lita M. Muthler, of Mill Hall; Justin M. Thornley, of Randolph, N.Y.; and Brittany A. Van Gilder, of Bloomsburg – recently participated in a competition showcasing their curricular and technical knowledge. The students were selected by their classmates to represent the Penn College Radiography Class of 2010 in a “technibowl” quiz competition held at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and hosted by the Penn State Hershey radiology program.

Area Medical Center Continues Support for Radiography Program

Mount Nittany Medical Center has pledged to continue a clinical-affiliation agreement with Penn College. The agreement provides use of the State College-based hospital’s radiology department for the clinical practicum of students enrolled in the college’s radiography major.

Radiography Students Place in Top Five at Technibowl

Kern, of Mapleton Depot, were selected to compete in the Radiography Technibowl, a competition against other radiography students from across the state, at the Hershey Medical Center on Nov. 11. During the Technibowl, students are asked mock registry questions with a time limit of 15 seconds to answer each one. The team members – who, with nine months of classroom and clinical experience remaining before their August graduation, faced many questions from content areas they have not yet been taught – finished fourth among more than 20 teams from Geisinger Medical Center, Harrisburg Area Community College, Holy Spirit Hospital, Lancaster General Hospital, Misericordia University, Northampton Community College, Reading Hospital and Penn State Schuylkill.

Students Present Posters for National Radiologic Technology Week

Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg Mount Nittany Medical Center Susquehanna Health During National Radiologic Technology Week, Nov. 2-8, the students from the Radiography Program designed poster boards to be displayed at their respective hospital sites: Evangelical Community Hospital, Mount Nittany Medical Center and Susquehanna Health. Students compiled information about radiation protection and the physics of radiography. This year’s display focused on the profession of radiography and had a blend of technical information for health-care professionals, as well as some common information for the public relaying how they are protected in the radiology department when being X-rayed. Students also gave the public some education on myths versus truths about radiation. National Radiologic Technology Week commemorates the anniversary of the X-ray, which was discovered Nov. 8, 1895, by Wilhelm Roentgen.

Radiography Director Reviews Textbook Manuscript

Robert Slothus Robert Slothus, director of radiography at Penn College, offered input on the first draft of a radiography textbook to be published in 2010. Slothus completed a review for “Digital Radiography: An Introduction for Technologists,” offering insight on the book’s content and format. The book, written by Euclid Seeram, is slated to be published in October 2010 by Delmar Cengage Learning.

Agreement With Susquehanna Health Supports Radiography Program

Penn College has entered into a clinical-affiliation agreement with Susquehanna Health for the 2007-08 academic year that provides for use of the hospitals’ radiology departments for the clinical practicum of students enrolled in the college’s associate-degree radiography major.

Penn College Faculty Member Included in ‘Who’s Who’ Publication

Regis C. Kohler Regis C. Kohler, associate professor of radiography at Penn College, will be listed in “Who's Who in American Education 2007-2008.” Kohler has taught at Penn College since 1987. He earned a master's degree from Bloomsburg University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He earned a certificate in radiography from Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Radiologic Technology.

Penn College Students to Help Celebrate X-Ray's Birthday

Students in Penn College's radiography program will contribute to the celebration of National Radiologic Technology Week, Nov. 5-11, by creating educational posters and displaying them in hospitals where they perform clinical rotations.

Radiography Faculty Member to Be Honored in 'Who's Who'

Regis C. Kohler Regis C. Kohler, associate professor of radiography at Penn College, will be honored in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers." His biography will appear in the 10th edition of the book, to be published later this year. This is the second time Kohler has earned the recognition.
