Alex Rinedoller Memorial Scholarship Created at Penn College

The family of a young Penn College alumnus who died unexpectedly in October has established a scholarship fund at the college in his memory. The Alex Rinedoller Memorial Scholarship will make scholarship awards available to full-time students in any of Penn College’s electrical-related majors (a bachelor’s degree in building automation technology: electrical emphasis, an associate degree in electrical technology and a certificate in electrical occupations) or in any of Penn College’s automotive-related majors (a bachelor’s degree in automotive technology management; associate degrees in automotive technology, automotive service sales and marketing, and collision repair technology; and certificates in automotive service technician and collision repair technician).

Students’ Solar Project Allows Firsthand Look at Energy Savings

Catching some rays A grant-funded student project at Penn College is bringing today’s “green” sensitivity to a campus landmark that celebrates Williamsport’s lumber prominence in the 1800s. An array of photovoltaic panels has been installed just southwest of the college’s Victorian House, a student-designed-and-built guest facility that was dedicated in June 1997. The college was one of a dozen institutions to receive a $15,000 Solar Scholars grant from the Sustainable Energy Fund to introduce renewable-energy studies into its curricula and convert an on-campus building to partial solar power.

Joseph M. Younes Memorial Scholarship Established

A new scholarship fund at Penn College memorializes an instructor who passed away last October. Joseph M. Younes lost his battle with cancer on Oct. 23 at the age of 54. He was an instructor of electrical technology/occupations for 16 years, and was an alumnus of the college’s electrical technology major. The Joseph M. Younes Memorial Scholarship will be open to full- or part-time students in the college’s bachelor’s degrees in building automation technology-electrical technology emphasis and building automation technology-electromechanical maintenance technology emphasis, as well as associate degrees in electrical technology and electromechanical maintenance technology. “Joe was an outstanding teacher,” said his widow, Linda M. Younes. “There was nothing more that he enjoyed than to see his students succeed in every aspect of their lives.”

Electrical Occupations Student 'Tri'-umphs in Latest Photo Contest

Fabrizio Jr.'s  orange-filtered look at a sidewalk after a downpour. An electrical occupations student from Coatesville, he wins $25 gift certificates from the College Store and Food Services. Penn College Students, Instructor Attend Power-Generation School

Students and a faculty member from Penn College recently attended the Electrical Generating Systems Association On-Site Power School in New Orleans, participating in training sessions and meeting potential employers among the key industry representatives that attended. The group – five students in the electric power generation technology major and Jon W. Hart, instructor of electrical technology – received four days of training and attended a convention/trade show at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Students who participated are Joseph W. Caplinger, Williamsport; Matthew B. Forbes, Mifflinburg; Adam R. Petak, Mineral Point; Patrick J. Rodack, Butler; and Steven A. Sample, Lewisburg.

Robert L. Hite Memorial Scholarship Established at College

May 15, 2006 - 3:00 p.m.

The founder of an Altoona firm with operations in three states will be memorialized with a new scholarship at Penn College. The Hite Co., a leading family-owned distributor of electrical apparatus, equipment, industrial/commercial and residential lighting, electronics, and data-communications and automation products, recently finalized the agreement to establish the Robert L. Hite Memorial Scholarship.
