Crosscurricular cooperation at heavy-equipment training site ESC students demonstrate equipment for civil engineering majors Heavy construction equipment: operator emphasis majors from Budd L. Greevy’s Heavy Equipment Operations class recently put on a demonstration for civil engineering technology students in Robert P. Gresko’s site-preparation course. (Greevy, who provided the photos, is an instructor of diesel equipment technology in Penn College's School of Natural Resources Management; Gresko is an instructor of construction technology in the School of Construction and Design Technologies.) The operations students – members of the Service and Operation of Heavy Equipment Association – explained the different genres of heavy construction equipment and the tasks they perform on a job site, as well as some application and efficiency factors for each type of machine. They also did demonstrations to explain why some trends have changed in recent years. Student Organization Completes Community-Service Project for Historical Museum

Nov. 28, 2007 - 9:38 a.m.

Student organization aids historical society The Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors-Penn College Student Chapter was in action at the Lycoming County Historical Society’s Thomas T. Taber Museum earlier this month. Initially. the club wanted to help at the annual “Terror at the Taber” haunted museum just before Halloween, but, because of scheduling conflicts with its anniversary celebrations, the 858 W. Fourth St. museum did not hold that event this year. Instead, the student chapter was given the opportunity to paint a public foyer, which members did over three days shortly before Thanksgiving break. "It was a great opportunity for the students to work as a team and connect with the local community outside of the campus environment," said Robert P. Stenerson, a surveying technology major from State College and president of the student chapter. From left, in the above photograph taken by Stenerson, are Rob Torluccio, chapter treasurer; Dave Slavish, faculty adviser; Steve Groller; Sandy Rife, the museum's executive director; Aaron Timmons; Ryan Courtney; Jon Smith; Marty Smith, vice president; Matt Bialowas, secretary; Scott Sagar, museum curator; and Alex Toldi.
