The video follows Shank during his senior project development class, which required students to design a new athletic facility for campus.

Construction management seniors Kyle S. Baker and John M. Kriner attended the ACE Mentor Program's College Night on Tuesday at the John Wanamaker Building in Philadelphia, where high school students spoke with numerous colleges about opportunities in architecture, construction and engineering. Baker, of Walkersville, Md., and Kriner, of Lancaster, joined faculty member Brad M. Martin to inform prospective students about the Penn College construction management degree. Many students and professionals in attendance never heard of Penn College or of its prestigious program, so, as part of their senior capstone project, Baker and Kriner are helping recruit students for the four-year construction management major. "Many people do not even know about the degree or understand that construction management is a white-collar job and that there are only 66 accredited programs nationwide," said Kriner, adding that, after speaking with more than 60 prospective students, the group believes many are interested in the program.
, held Oct. 2-3 at Mountainridge in Wallingford, Conn. The goal of the program is to heighten student awareness of careers in the construction industry and to help replenish the supply of skilled construction professionals. The Penn College exhibit very likely was the largest and most popular one inside the complex. Misty D. Kennard-Mayer, coordinator of matriculation and retention, natural resources management, gave students the opportunity to use a remote-controlled backhoe, while Steven K. McCoy, her counterpart in construction and design technologies, conducted a nail-driving competition as a fun “ice breaker." Both activities allowed for dialogue about the broad array of careers in the industry and how Penn College can prepare students for those opportunities. The college booth adjoined that of H.O. Penn Machinery Co. Inc, one of Penn College's longtime Caterpillar sponsors, which brought heavy construction equipment that the students could operate outside.
Students from the School of Construction and Design Technologies are displaying their knowledge and skill by creating an area of respite to be enjoyed by the Penn College community. A Remembrance Garden, designed in the college's architecture program and brought to life by students – including Friday morning's BCT238 Concrete Construction class taught by Daniel L. Force, owner of E&D Construction Co. in Mill Hall – is taking shape on the east side of the Carl Building Technologies Center. Like the Victorian House, Field House and other campus projects before it, the garden provides a way for students to leave a piece of their education behind.
