Construction Students Awarded Scholarships From Industry Allies

Five Penn College students – all enrolled in the School of Construction and Design Technologies – will receive $1,250 from Centex Homes and the philanthropic arm of the National Association of Home Builders, both longtime partners in the college’s academic mission. This year’s honorees include Benjamin H. Clark, Chadds Ford, and Corwyn K. Smith, Gettysburg, residential construction technology and management: building construction technology concentration; Noah A. Grube, New Tripoli, construction management; Ryan M. Hummel, Reading, building construction technology; and Tyler V. Jones, South Abington Township, architectural technology. It is the second consecutive award to Smith, who received $3,000 last year.
Penn College Scholarship Honors Architecture Faculty Member

The legacy of a well-respected assistant professor of architecture technology will continue at Penn College through a new scholarship fund established in his memory. The executors of the estate of the late William H. Ealer have signed an agreement with the Penn College Foundation establishing the William H. Ealer Scholarship Fund. The foundation is accepting donations toward building the scholarship fund to an endowment of at least $25,000, at which time it will begin making scholarship awards.
Weekend Services Set for William H. Ealer, Architecture Professor

The funeral will be Saturday morning for William H. Ealer, who, at the time of his Feb. 14 death, was the seniormost active faculty member at Penn College. An assistant professor of architectural technology in the college's School of Construction and Design Technologies, Ealer began his teaching career at the former Williamsport Area Community College in 1965. the funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1400 Market St., with burial in Wildwood Cemetery. A life celebration will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Maneval's, 500 W. Fourth St. Memorial contributions may be made to the William H. Ealer Scholarship Fund, in care of the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation, One College Avenue, Williamsport, PA 17701.
Kaitlyn M. Charmbury September's 'Student of the Month'

Kaitlyn M. Charmbury, a residential construction management: architectural technology student from State College, has been chosen as September's Student Government Association “Student of the Month” at Penn College. "Kaitlyn is an exemplary student who demonstrates strong leadership skills, as well as academic performance,” her nominator wrote. “She is a fair and balanced leader who respects others and puts herself in their shoes when examining a situation. Kaitlyn is an excellent role model for her residents and her peers.”
Architectural Technology Professor Named to ‘Who’s Who’

An associate professor of architectural technology at Penn College was selected for inclusion in the 2009 edition of “Who’s Who in America.” Robert A. Wozniak, a member of the Penn College faculty since August 2005, will be represented in the 63rd edition of the annual publication that profiles more than 100,000 leaders and achievers from across the country and from every significant field of endeavor from business and politics, to health care and science, to entertainment and the arts.
Penn College Team Wins First Place in Builders’ Competition

A team of students enrolled in Penn College’s two-year construction majors earned top prize in competition at the recent National Association of Home Builders International Builders’ Show in Florida, the college’s third first-place finish in that category in the past five years. A group of students in four-year majors made the trip, as well, finishing a solid 13th out of more than two dozen entries.
Penn College Plays Prominent Role at Autodesk Conference

Penn College was well-represented at Autodesk University 2007, held Nov. 27-30 in Las Vegas. Autodesk University is the world’s largest annual gathering of computer aided design and related professionals, with more than 10,000 working professionals, industry experts and Autodesk executives in attendance. Five faculty and staff members attended the conference, one presenting several sessions, and a model of an arbor press − completed during his freshman year by student Austin M. Upright, of Montoursville − played a prominent role.
Associate Professor to Present at Sustainability Institute

Winners Announced in Annual Bridge-Building Competition
March 29, 2007 - 11:23 a.m.
A team of architectural technology students won the 17th annual "Bridging the Gap" competition, with a construction-paper bridge that carried 119.39 times its weight. Team members, whose creation came out on top after Tuesday's weight-bearing tests, are Jared T. Sims, Souderton; Jessica L. Cruise, Scranton; Jason T. Detwiler, Liberty; Gregory E. O'Connor, Islip Terrace, N.Y.; and Brendan J. Kemmerer, Quakertown. The unofficial winner was Andrew J. Polski, a residential construction management-architectural technology major from Chantilly, Va., with a bridge carrying 421.22 times its weight. His 188-gram bridge was over the weight limit of 159 grams, according to Dorothy J. Gerring, associate professor of architecture. The official winners' bridge weighed 142 grams.

Architects' Group Hears Presentation on Madigan Library

The American Institute of Architects' Middle Pennsylvania chapter met in Penn College's Professional Development Center on Friday night, discussing the architectural design of the Madigan Library. Benedict H. Dubbs Jr., architect for Murray Associates Architects, P.C., Harrisburg (left), offered a presentation on the firm's design of the magnificent facility, spotlighting many features of the building that opened Aug. 12. Chapter members also hosted William H. Ealer, assistant professor of architecture at the college, and students from the School of Construction and Design Technologies.
