CONNECTIONS SESSIONS AND ACTIVITIES

Continental Breakfast

7:30 - 8 a.m.

College Store Welcome

8 - 8:15 a.m.

Meet members of the College Store staff and hear information about the costs of books and supplies, how and when to buy them, and what discounts are available in the College Store.

The Transition to College Life: Your Health and Safety

8:15 - 9:15 a.m.

How safe is campus? What if I get sick? Now that I am in college, am I allowed to drink? These are frequently asked questions by both students and parents. New-found independence and social experiences can sometimes challenge new students’ safety and general well being. Learn how to be safe on campus, how to take care of your health-related needs, and where to get help when needed.

Academic School Sessions

9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

Students and parents will have an opportunity to meet your school dean and learn more about your selected program. Each session is designed to address school specific information. All sessions will include time for questions and answers.

Alternate Session: Students who are not enrolled in the academic school highlighted for the designated two-day session will be invited to a general session on Penn College academic expectations. A representative from Academic Affairs will provide a general overview and answer academic-related questions.

In the Classroom (Students Only)

10:45 - 11:45 a.m.

Want to know how college classes are different from high school classes? What are your professors going to expect from you? What is a syllabus and how do you use it? Participate in a ‘mock classroom’ and learn answers to these questions and more about classroom expectations.

Parents Need to be Connected Too! (Parents Only)

10:45 - 11:45 a.m.

Parents often have questions about what their sons and daughters will experience, and who better to ask than current Penn College students? Hear firsthand what it is like to be a Penn College student. The Connections Links are current students, representing a variety of academic schools, who know what it is like to live both on and off campus, and who are involved in various social and academic activities.

Lunch

noon - 1 p.m.

Choosing and Understanding Your Meal Plan and Dining Options

1 - 1:30 p.m.

One important question on the mind of many new students is where am I going to eat? Food Services staff will share information about meal plan options, on-campus dining units, and available resources for students.

Paying for College

1:30 - 2:30 p.m.

One of the most confusing parts about going to college can be figuring out how to pay for everything. Learn about the financial aid timeline; how to pay for related costs including a parking permit, meal plan, fitness center membership, etc.; e-billing; and the Higher One refund process.

Resources for Transfer and Non-traditional Students

2:45 - 3:45 p.m.

From counseling and career services, to academic support programs, to health and safety information, numerous resources are available for transfer and non-traditional students. Learn about these resources and meet staff who will be available to answer your questions today and assist you throughout the entire year.

Final Thoughts

3:45 - 4 p.m.
