Apartment Condition and Maintenance
Apartment Condition
- When you move in, inventory the condition of the apartment. Most landlords give you a week. Sample Form
- Have all roommates assist in the process — the more eyes the better!
- Be SPECIFIC and put it in writing. (Some landlords will give you a form to use.)
- Take pictures of any outstanding damage, like large stains in the carpet, holes or dents in the walls, damaged woodwork, etc.
- Give a copy of the form and any pictures to your landlord, and keep copies of each for yourself.
Apartment Maintenance
- As things need to be repaired in your apartment, report them immediately to the manager or landlord. Do not let damaged or broken things pile up, as they may be deducted from your security deposit when you move out.
- Make sure you have the appropriate numbers to
call maintenance:
- During the day
- After-hour emergencies
