Distinguished Teaching Awards

Christine  M. Kessler

The college’s highest level of recognition for faculty, the Veronica M. Muzic Master Teacher Award, was presented to Christine M. Kessler, assistant professor of physician assistant. The award is presented to someone with at least six years’ successful teaching experience at Penn College, who represents the very best in faculty, dedicated to providing the highest quality of experience to students.

Dottie  M. Mathers
Frank M. Suchwala

Excellence in Teaching Awards were presented to Dottie M. Mathers, associate professor of medical/surgical nursing, and Frank M. Suchwala, instructor of hospitality management/culinary arts. The awards are presented each May to fulltime faculty members who are nominated by students and colleagues for excellence in instructional performance.

Jo-Ann H. Pacenta

Jo-Ann H. Pacenta, part-time instructor of accounting, received the 2009 Part-Time Teaching Excellence Award. She is also an accounting manager/ consultant for local nonprofit corporations involved in the operation of federal and state grant programs and adjunct professor at Susquehanna University.

Distinguished Staff Awards

Linda  M. Morris, Louis E. Myers, Marion C. Mowery

Distinguished Staff Awards honor the contributions and commitment of employees, who are nominated by their co-workers. Awards were presented in 2009 to Linda M. Morris, director of human resources: employment/EEO, APT; Marion C. Mowery, residence life assistant, Classified; and Louis E. Myers, shipping/receiving lead worker, Service.

Alumni Awards

Robert O. Rolley Jr.

A Distinguished Alumnus Award, in recognition of personal and professional accomplishments and furthering the efforts of the college in the community, was presented to Robert O. Rolley Jr., ’83, journalism, publisher of The (Lock Haven) Express.

Robert V. Blauser

An Alumnus Achievement Award, which recognizes noteworthy career accomplishments of a graduate from the past 10 years, was awarded to Robert V. Blauser,’96, welding technology, and ’00, welding and fabrication engineering technology, engineering leader at Harley-Davison Motor Co.

Todd J. Fox

An Alumni Citizenship/ Humanitarian Award, recognizing distinguished community or volunteer service, was presented to Todd J. Fox, ’98, business management, executive director of Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity.

Karl Quinn Karl Quinn

Mentorship Awards, recognizing alumni and/or businesses that have made significant or ongoing contributions to the education and development of Penn College students, were presented to two Baltimore-based companies and their representatives: Karl Quinn, Alban Tractor Co. Inc., and David A. Potts,The Whiting-TurnerContracting Co.

Penn College received Honor Roll recognition

Penn College received Honor Roll recognition as one of the nation’s top 10 medium-sized institutions (3,000-9,999 students) – in The Chronicle of Higher Education’s “Great Colleges to Work For” survey. The survey is he second-largest workplacerecognition program in the country after Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For.”

Penn College achieved top-10 rankings in 23 of 26 categories – more than any other “honor roll” institution. More than 400 Penn College employees responded to the survey; this 59-percent participation rate was well above the national average (43 percent).

“People make the difference at Penn College,” said Davie Jane Gilmour, president. “We have always believed that our employees are very special individuals who are dedicated to opening doors for our students and to creating an environment in which everyone can contribute and succeed. This survey provides confirmation that we are creating something special here. There is an energy and enthusiasm on our campus that is unique and rewarding for all of us who are fortunate to be a part of it.”
