Home Energy Auditing
Learn home energy auditing techniques and apply them outside of the classroom in a real-world scenario. This course is presented against a backdrop of building science and covers infiltration theory, degree day theory, approved retrofit lists and codes, concepts behind savings to investment ratio(SIR) and simple payback, blower door guided air leakage tests, infrared camera technology, thermal and pressure boundaries, heat systems testing and analysis, material measuring, moisture control and IAQ, and working with a field data collection form. The course includes a field trip to an actual house where participants will conduct an energy audit and generate a work order. This course is approximately 40% presentation/classroom exercises and 60% hands-on application in the lab and field. Students will be assessed on their participation in classroom/lab exercises and a passing grade (70% or above) in the end-of-course exams: written and field audit report. NOTE: Participants are encouraged to bring their organization's energy auditing form to use during the field audit. Course hours: 19. BPI CEUs: 9.5.
