Introduction to Residential Heating Systems
This course is designed to familiarize participants with fundamentals of common residential central space heating systems, discussed against a backdrop of PA WAP Field Standards. Topics include Combustion Basics, Heating Systems Efficiency Ratings, Heating System Sizing, Chimneys and Flues, Appliance Identification, Operating and Safety Controls, Distribution Systems, Heat Exchangers, and Fuel Types. This course is approximately 80% presentation/classroom exercises and 20% hands-on application, equipment training, and diagnostics in the lab. This course requires student participation in classroom and lab exercises as well as a passing grade (70% or above) in both of the end-of-course exams: written and lab. Course hours: 24.
