National Sustainable Structures Center
Background
Located at Pennsylvania College of Technology's General Services building in Williamsport, PA, NSSC (formerly the Weatherization Training Center) was established in 1985 as a result of a partnership between Penn College and the PA Department of Community & Economic Development. Since its inception, over 10,000 individuals have participated in WTC energy conservation and weatherization courses, workshops, and special training events.
As one of the few Legacy Weatherization Training Centers, NSSC offers a full range of competency-based weatherization training courses for home performance contractors, utility companies, and persons who are employed by or subcontract to agencies that administer the Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
As a Building Performance Institute Testing Center, NSSC offers training and testing for BPI Building Analyst, Envelope Specialist, Multifamily Professional, and Heating Specialist certifications. NSSC also is approved to offer the NREL/BPI Home Energy Professional Certification exams, which are free for individuals associated with the WAP.
In addition, NSSC offers manufactured housing training that was developed by the former Manufactured Housing Training Institute and various manufactured housing industry leaders in Pennsylvania.
Recently, NSSC expanded its training offerings to include the Building Operator Certificate and Commercial Building Re-tuning training in Pennsylvania and several other states.
In 2012, the Weatherization Training Center officially became the National Sustainable Structures Center in order to reflect our broader mission to provide building science and energy conservation training in both the commercial and residential fields.
