Document Delivery and Mail Services

Document Delivery & Resource Sharing is a service that involves borrowing and lending of material between libraries. PCT Madigan Library Document Delivery lends books, media, and articles to academic and public libraries, schools, and others. We ship to hundreds of locations, both near and far, as shown by some of the sites on the map. We also borrow library material for PCT faculty, staff and students from libraries world-wide. Requests are processed through an online network covering over 10,000 libraries. To borrow items from another library, see the information below.

Requesting Materials

Request forms are available at the Reference Desk in the Library or by using the Document Delivery Form. There is a limit of five requests per day. You will be contacted via email or phone when your material has arrived. Although some items may be available in 24 hours, please allow two weeks for items from distant sources. Materials may be picked up at the Circulation Services Desk in the library or in some cases, it is possible to forward the articles via E-mail. Photocopies of materials are yours to keep. Books and other borrowed items are loaned for two to four week periods. Due dates will be indicated on the label attached to the item. Overdue items are subject to $1.00/day fine. Renewals may be given if the lending library permits, and should be requested before the due date. Renewal request forms are available at the Circulation Services desk. Questions about Document Delivery or requesting materials, contact Connie Rice.

Requesting Media Materials

Distance Learners may contact Connie Rice to request Penn College audiovisual materials. When requesting materials, confirm the shipping address, furnish the date needed to receive materials, if possible furnish a second usage date in the event the materials are not available on the preferred date. When returning materials use first-class mail and use the same package in which the item(s) were received, using the enclosed return address label. Loan periods are for one week.

EZBorrow

EZBorrow allows Penn College students, faculty and staff to borrow books from nearly 60 member libraries in the Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium (PALCI). EZBorrow lets you make the loan requests directly, expediting the interlibrary loan process. Most books arrive in 3-5 business days. Try EZBorrow or learn more at EZBorrow Tips.

Materials Policy

The borrower is responsible for the loaned material; damaged or lost items must be paid for, at the cost charged by the lending library. Unpaid charges will result in a grade hold.

Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, vol. 37, sec., 201.14(b) (1995).
