Pennsylvania Governor’s Institute for Mathematics Educators
The Summer 2003 Governor’s
Institute for Mathematics Educators focused on “Representing the Real World
Through Mathematics.” Participants learned how to develop an instructional
unit based on a real world mathematics model consistent with the
Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Mathematics.
The curriculum developed at the Institute took the form of a
“Problem-in-a-Bag.” Each group of participants created an instructional unit
that could be used in their classroom based on a real world mathematical
problem that integrated one or more of the Pennsylvania Mathematics
Standards.
The units developed at the
Institute are available at the links above and can be either viewed or
downloaded as a Word document for free. You are encouraged to modify the
lessons to make them work for your classroom and your students.
