Implementation Time 45 minutes
Learning Objectives Using written directions, students complete a Lego building project.
Materials Needed One set of directions and Lego blocks per pair of students.
Detailed Activity Steps
  1. Teacher to model how to follow written directions.
  2. Teacher to explain how to write an observation.
  3. Distribute packet of materials to pair of students.
  4. One student follows directions and builds, the other student observes. The observer records what he/she observes the builder doing.
  5. Once completed, pairs try a different set.
  6. With each set, students reverse builder and observer roles and complete activity.
  7. After students complete activity they are to write what hindered and helped on a T - chart.
  8. Teacher processes activity with group and reviews what the key steps are in completing written directions and how these steps relate to other technical tasks.
Theory basis Experiential Learning Theory
Evaluation/Assessment Student completes the building project successfully and can list at least 8 keys to completing a technical task.
Comments Adjust difficulty of Lego project to the level of the group.
Enhancement Activities Add robotics piece to project.
Adaptation for at risk kids Adapt per IEP.
