Detailed Activity Steps |
Lesson 1
-
Brainstorm methods on the
board for finding information about local employment opportunities and
training.

Focus on how to use
classified advertisements in local newspapers, discuss and explain the
elements of classified ads (i.e. the organization/layout,
abbreviations, terms, categories of employment, etc.).

Through the use of a handout
that provides examples of particular ads, allow students to practice
finding and interpreting specific information.
Lesson 2
-
Review a daily newspaper for
articles on local employment trends.

Have students tally the
number of postings in various categories of employment.

Discuss the relationships
between the tally results and the trends, which were reflected in
articles.
