Building a Snowflake

Learning Objectives
  1. Students will be able to explain the shape of a snowflake.
  2. Students will follow instructions to build a 3-dimensional snowflake.
Materials Needed
  • K’nex toys
  • Paper
  • Crayons
Detailed Activity Steps
  1. Read Snow by Uri Shuvelitz.
  2. Students will discuss what is special about a snowflake.
  3. Students will draw a snowflake.
  4. Students will read directions and build a snowflake with K’nex toys.
Theory basis Experiential Learning Theory
  1. Students will compare snowflakes and explain how they are alike and how they are different.
  2. Teacher will evaluate the student’s ability to read and follow directions.
  • Students can pair off to build snowflakes.
  • Remind student that although in nature, snowflakes are unique, K’nex snowflakes will look alike in structure.
