Live Update
With hundreds of new viruses hitting the Internet each month, we recommend updating your signature files (these are like fingerprints used to detect viruses) weekly. Symantec AntiVirus allows you to do this manually or to schedule automatic updates.
Manual LiveUpdate
- Open Symantec AntiVirus (Start menu > Programs > Symantec AntiVirus).
- Click on the LiveUpdate button.
- Follow the on-screen prompts.
- When update is complete, Exit Symantec (clicking Exit does not turn off your anti-virus protection).
Schedule Auto-Updates
- Open Symantec AntiVirus.
- From menu bar, select File > Schedule Updates.
- Verify that "Enable scheduled automatic updates" is checked.
- To change the default schedule (Fridays at 8 p.m.), click the Schedule button.
- Select a Weekly (recommended) day an time when your computer is likely to be turned on and connected to the Internet.
- Click OK to close all open screens and Exit to close the Symantec window (does not turn off anti-virus protection).
