Personal Computer Recommendations

The College's computer labs meet the needs of most students. However, some students, especially those living in College housing, may find it convenient to bring their own PCs.

Discounts on computers, peripheral equipment, and software are available to Penn College students.

Use the following specifications when purchasing a PC for campus use.

NOTE: Students enrolled in Information Technology majors are required to purchase a laptop/notebook computer [recommended configuration (PDF)] before taking CIT 160, or higher level IT course. Contact the School of Business & Computer Technologies for more information.

PC Recommendations

  • A computer not more than two years old.
  • A printer for printing in dorm or apartment (note that students can print in the computer labs and library for free up to a maximum number of pages per semester)
  • Microsoft® Windows® XP or Vista - For the most part, Penn College is a Microsoft Windows operating system environment. Microsoft Windows Vista, which comes pre-installed on most PCs sold today, will ensure the highest level of compatibility with other College computers.

Network Connections

  • 10/100 Ethernet card - Students living in College-owned residence life housing have an in-room 10/100 Fast Ethernet network connection available. This card is a standard feature on most new computers available today.
  • Students with laptop/notebook computers will also want to take advantage of our Wildcat Wireless network.
