Japan - Tsuyama & Osaka

Study Abroad in Italy

Japan has a rich history, full of culture and art. It is known by young people for its highly visible and modern popular culture. It is a country where modern blends with traditional. Cultural highlights will include the gracious hospitality of the Japanese, the fresh food, the bullet-fast shinkansen trains, and the ancient temples.

Students spend one week in Tsuyama, a city nestled in the mountains of Japan and home to Tsuyama National College of Technology who will be your hosts.The next week is spent in Osaka, bustling with business and night life; the second largest city in Japan. Spend a day in Hiroshima, a thriving internationally minded city, and take an overnight trip to Kyoto, center of traditional culture with more than 2,000 temples and shrines.

Information Sessions
  • September 16, 2009 – noon-1pm
  • October 15, 2009 – 3:30-4:30 p.m
  • November 11, 2009 – noon-1pm
  • All sessions in CC 207

Only Penn College students are eligible and there is a limit of five participants. Students must be at least 18 years old. There are no prerequisites. Students should have a 2.5 GPA and can receive three credits to fulfill a Humanities/Social Science/Art/Language/Cultural Diversity elective, International Field Experience, or Open elective.

To apply for this study abroad program, submit the following to the International Programs Office, ACC 7B, by October 15:

  • Completed Penn College Study Abroad application form (online and PDF)
  • Letter of recommendation from a Penn College faculty member
  • Personal statement describing why you want to participate in the program
  • $500 deposit (checks payable to Penn College)
