Germany - Semester Exchange Program

Study Abroad in Germany

Penn College offers a semester exchange program for Penn College students at the Fachhochschule Wüerzburg (commonly referred to as FH Wüerzburg) located in Wüerzburg, Germany. [German Study Abroad brochure (PDF)]

This program is only open to Penn College students.

Students can study international management, German language courses, and other specially-designed, independent, research projects. The program is intended to attract students with a business major or concentration in business. Any student is welcome to apply to the program, but there are some business prerequisites. Students are encouraged to participate in their junior or senior years; but they can, also, apply for their sophomore year. Students should have a 2.75 GPA.

Students pay Penn College tuition for 15 credits and take their courses at FH Wüerzburg. Financial aid does transfer. No prior German is required; however, students are expected to attend a two-week survival German course upon arrival. Housing is in dormitories close by the campus; the cost of housing is not included in the tuition. Student housing is an efficiency-type apartment for one or two people. Students may eat at the local student cafeteria or prepare their own meals.

A Fachhochschule is considered a technical college in Germany. The main campus is in Wüerzburg and is the location of the business school. This campus has about 2,500 students. The total student population of 4,100 is comprised of an approximately equal number of males and females, and about 123 foreign students.

Wüerzburg is located in the north-central part of Bavaria and has a population of about 127,000 inhabitants. Additionally, there are about 30,000 students. (There is a university near the Fachhochschule and a music school.) The landscape is rolling hills and forests. Towns and cities in Europe are very centralized and Wüerzburg is no exception. The city has a very active, downtown shopping district with an open market (also typical for Germany). Wüerzburg is about 2 ½ hours by train from Munich.
