Tim Case

Timothy’s Background

Tim Case was familiar with the college scene. After earning a degree in history from another institution, he found it was not the right career path for him. On a referral from a friend, Tim decided to explore the Penn College paramedic program. His involvement as a volunteer EMT started in high school and continued through his college career. He scheduled a tour of campus and was impressed with the curriculum and opportunity presented. Tim graduated from Penn College in 2005 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in paramedic technology.

American Medical Response

Tim is an operations supervisor for American Medical Response in Multnomah County, Oregon. American Medical Response is the nation’s leading medical transportation company supporting more than 250 community-based AMR operations nationwide. As operations supervisor, Tim is responsible for coordinating the ambulance service to the state’s most populous county, a community with over 710,000 residents. He manages between 10 and 18 ambulances with the goal of creating the greatest level of efficiency. Tim credits his ability to the practical experience and depth of resources provided by Penn College. The knowledge gained as a student is serving him well as an alum.

Advice

Tim is adamant about a solid knowledge-base and the importance of communication in his profession. Tim said that learning to work as a team in stressful situations and focusing on what is best for the patient should be the main priority. The need to develop a positive relationship with a complete stranger and learn how to phrase a question to yield the correct results is essential. He added that exposure to a variety of clinical situations is the best way to learn how to be successful in these areas. Tim also encourages students to remember that learning is a process. Don’t be discouraged. Keep working to improve and grow professionally.

Future

The interaction with people, the teamwork, is what Tim enjoys most about his profession. He works with the County Medical Director to manage controlled substances issued to all field crews. He has been a member of the County CQI/QA Committee; a group of medical professionals that ensure existing protocols are followed and applied appropriately. His goal is to remain active in the field while increasing his work with educating paramedic students and professionals. Tim’s professional achievements are promoting and protecting the health of people within his community.
