Sam’s Background
As a student at Mount Carmel High School, Sam Bressi elected to take a few computer aided drafting classes and an interest in architectural technology developed. While visiting friends who were attending Pennsylvania College of Technology, Sam fell in love with the campus and decided to submit an application. After a year of study in the Architectural Technology program, Sam found a stronger interest in information technology. He made the switch and graduated in 2004, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Technology.
Federal Bureau of Investigation
After a long, complicated, and stressful interview process (with thousands of applicants), Sam was hired as an Information Technology Specialist with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C. He and three co-workers recently completed an upgrade of a new web-based financial system. Sam was exposed to the importance of teamwork as a student at Penn College. He is pleased to contribute in this fashion as he is very satisfied to know he is a piece of the larger puzzle. Sam praises his professors for applying this concept in the classroom as it has played a major role in his day-to-day responsibilities with the FBI. Currently, Sam is a project manager for a performance management system utilized by FBI leadership.
Advice
Sam offers a variety of advice to those interested in the world of information technology. First, do not limit yourself to one specific subset of this industry. The opportunities are broad and Sam suggests exploring as many as you can while in high school and college. As a student, Sam recommends a focus on improving problem solving skills. Whether you are working on a complex algebra problem or working through a multifaceted project, look at all angles and don’t be afraid to ask for input. He also recommends keeping an open mind while working in the classroom with various professors. You may not always realize the value of the assignment at hand, but it all comes together when you start working in the field.
Future
With the constant change and fast-paced nature of the information technology field, Sam understands the importance of continuing his education. To stay current and up-to-date, he plans to earn a master’s degree program in information technology or continue his education in the area of artificial intelligence. Increasing his education and experience can help Sam be successful while working for the government. In the future, this combination may assist him in securing a teaching position in the field. Sam enjoys his work now, but someday may wish to share his knowledge with a classroom of information technology students.
