Peter’s Background

In the 10th grade, Peter Anderson enrolled in the welding curriculum at his high school. He excelled and continued his education at a local community college where he earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Welding Technology. Knowing a bachelor’s degree would generate more professional and personal opportunity, he researched programs and decided to visit Pennsylvania College of Technology. He was impressed with hospitality during his visit as well as the hands-on and real-world experiences offered in the welding curriculum. In 2001, Peter earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Welding & Fabrication Engineering Technology, along with a minor in Management.

Thermadyne Industries

Today, Peter is the Marketing & Product Manager for Thermadyne Industries, a leading global manufacturer and marketer of cutting and welding products and accessories. As marketing product manager, Peter is responsible for nearly $100 million in annual combined brand sales. He determines the demand for welding equipment and arc accessories in North and South America and then collaborates with the engineering, planning, and marketing departments to establish and guide new product development, and regional market launches. Peter’s education and industry experience make him a valuable asset to the corporate team.

Advice

Peter advises students to embrace the fact that college is an investment. The more you invest, the better the opportunities you will have in the future. Focus on your studies. A strong GPA can lead to continuous educational opportunities. Learn about the industry by talking to people in the field. Then evaluate your own personal and professional style. Knowing if the company is the right fit is essential to your success as an employee. Establishing strong foundations early will lead to personal and professional grow the rest of your life.   

Future

Peter recently earned a Masters of Business Administration from Bellarmine University and continues to strive for personal and professional growth within the welding industry. He enjoys working for Thermadyne Industries and is committed to increasing company sales through new product development. He plans to expand his professional network by becoming more active with the American Welding Society. Peter believes he is an asset to the industry with his combination of education and experience; he looks forward to contributing at a new level.
