Larry’s Background

Larry BasileLarry’s connection with Penn College dates back to the 1960s when his father was a student in the architectural drafting program at Williamsport Technical Institute. While working for his father in high school, Larry developed an interest in the construction field. Knowing the strengths of a technical education, his father suggested a visit to Penn College during his college search. In 1991, Larry graduated with an associate of applied science degree in architectural technology .

Construction Specialties, Inc.

Larry is a general sales manager at Construction Specialties, a global leader in architectural and engineering products. With over 100 patents internationally, Construction Specialties prides itself on “creating products that make buildings better”. Larry manages a budget of $55 million and oversees 28 independent sales representatives. It is his responsibility to ensure appropriate CS products are presented to clients. His territory, the East Region, is an area that includes all states touching the Atlantic Ocean with the exception of Georgia. Larry praises his former professors for the practical experiences and individual attention shared during his time as a architectural technology student. His education is the foundation of his professional career.

Advice

Larry encourages students to make the most of their education. Get involved with the college community, specifically opportunities related to your career path. He encourages students to explore LEED certification. LEED certification is third-party verification that a building or community was designed with environmental strategies in mind. Focus on improving your skills and research the industry. Know the top ten architectural firms in the country and what they look for in their employees. Employers look for individuals with technical knowledge, new ideas, and proactive qualities. Having the right qualities make the difference in an aggressive market.

Future

Larry’s commitment to his field is evident. He is dedicated to the growth and development of Construction Specialties and looks forward to professional growth within the company. He continues to stay current with his education and plans to finish his LEED certification soon. He’s a valued member of the Penn College architectural advisory committee, sharing his professional experience and knowledge to improve the learning environment of current students. There is no question Larry’s pride for Penn College shines brightly. He looks forward to expanding his involvement with the College community..
