The Pre-enrollment Process at a Glance
After you have received your conditional acceptance from the Admissions Office, you will begin the next phase of your journey: the pre-enrollment process. The pre-enrollment process is comprised of a series of steps that, with the guidance of staff and facutly, will lead to your first semester at Penn College. Among the steps are four mileposts that will focus on your academic preparation:
- Placement - The placement process, will determine how your current skills in math, reading, and English compare to what you will need for success in your major. After assessing your readiness in these areas, Academic Services and First Year Programs staff will work together with academic deans and faculty to determine the appropriate entry-level course work for you.
- Pre-enrollment Advising - You will return to campus for a session designed to explain your test results and what those scores mean for your first semester and beyond. During this session, you will also have an opportunity to talk with staff and faculty about the requirements and expectations of your major.
- First Semester Scheduling - Based upon your placement and the requirements of your major, Academic Services and First Year Programs will create your first semester schedule and will make it available to you on the Student Information System (SIS).
- New Student Orientation - The final step in your pre-enrollment journey is to attend Connections, a required orientation program for new students, run by the Student Activities Office. During Connections, you will learn about the campus culture, academic expectations, social opportunities, success strategies, and much more.
For a complete list of steps that you will need to complete from placement testing to the first day of classes, see the Pre-enrollment Handbook.
