Summer Financial Aid

In order to be considered for summer aid, you must have completed the following forms for the upcoming academic year:

Federal Pell Grant

If you are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant, you may receive funds for the summer session. However, any Pell funds received will be deducted from the amount you would receive for the upcoming spring semester. Therefore, if you plan to enroll as a full-time student during the upcoming academic year, you may not want to use your funds for summer. To request Pell funds for the summer session or to discuss your options, contact the Financial Aid Office. The amount of your grant will be applied to your account. (In some cases, part-time students are not eligible to receive Pell funds depending on the amount of their award.)

Federal Stafford Student Loans

To be eligible and receive billing credit for your Federal Stafford Loan funds, you must be scheduled for six or more credits for the summer session. If you drop below six credits, you may become ineligible for all or part of the loan. Any refund resulting from the dropped class(es) will be returned to your lender.

If you had a student loan in the previous fall or spring semesters and your loan is not on your summer eBill, contact the Financial Aid Office to let us know that you want your loan processed for summer.

If you did not have a loan in the fall or spring of the current academic year, please go to American Education Services (AES) and select “Stafford Loans” from the “Student Loans” section. Choose a lender and make sure you apply for your loan as early as possible. Summer loan applications are processed beginning in April. Once processed, you will receive an award letter indicating the amount of the loan and the term(s) for which it has been processed. When final action has been taken on the loan, you will receive a Loan Guaranty Notice and Disclosure Statement. That Statement will contain information about fees, loan term dates, and the anticipated disbursement date. Save the Statement for future reference. Loan funds will not be credited to your account until you have officially scheduled for at least six credits.

PHEAA Grants

You may receive a PHEAA grant for summer if you are enrolled in six or more credits. However, since receiving a summer award reduces the number of semesters you are entitled to receive PHEAA funds, we recommend that you only use PHEAA if you are planning to enroll full-time (12 or more credits) for summer or will be part-time during the upcoming academic year. To discuss your options, contact the Financial Aid Office. Summer PHEAA Grant Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office in April.

For refund and billing questions, contact the Bursar’s Office/Student Accounts.
