From consumer products to medical applications to transportation needs, plastics permeate every aspect of our lives. In fact, experts say we are more dependant on plastics for home, work and play than at any time in history. This episode of the award-winning series degrees that work will reveal the vital field through the eyes of talented high school students engaging in a unique plastics competition and industry veterans attending the globe's largest plastics showcase, NPE 2009 in Chicago. Various plastics processing methods also will be explored, including injection molding at K'NEX, the third largest construction toy manufacturer in the world. The result will be a multifaceted look at an often overlooked field that offers vast and varied rewarding career opportunities for young people.
