Support Groups
Support groups are offered throughout the semester. All groups are informal and confidential. They offer students an opportunity to share common concerns with their peers in a non-threatening environment.
For more information about these student support groups, please contact Counseling Services in the Campus Center, Room 204 or (570) 327-4765.
Stress Management Group
Even positive changes, like starting college, can generate a great deal of stress. Getting acquainted with roommates, learning how to study effectively, developing a social life, and looking for part-time work can all create pressure. This group is designed to let you “vent” and also provide information on how to deal with stress in a positive way.
Non-Traditional (Adult) Peer Group
Are you afraid you’ve forgotten how to be a good student? This group will help you resurrect your rusty skills. Topics will include Study Skills, Time Management, Stress Management, and other topics of interest to group participants. Focus will be on how adults can achieve a balance in their lives in relation to their many roles.
Test Anxiety Group
It is normal to feel a bit uptight right before a test. However, if you experience severe symptoms like trembling, nausea/vomiting, thought disruption/total blanking, breathing problems, etc., you are suffering from test anxiety. This group will help you determine the source of your anxiety and teach you techniques to combat the anxiety.
