Student Dies in Vehicle Accident

Jan. 8, 2008 - 2:15 p.m.

Carissa M. Waiksnoris, 19, of Shenandoah, Schuylkill County, a student in the human services major at Penn College in the Fall 2007 semester, died Friday, Jan. 4, from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident on Interstate 80 in Copper Township, Clearfield County. Penn College flags were lowered to half-staff, and a memorial brick will be placed in her honor in the Remembrance Garden. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Stephen Church with Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, officiating. Interment was in St. Casimir Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Library Hosts Winning 'Mixed Nuts Casino' Night

Front of Library Now Considered 'No Smoking' Area

The front of the Madigan Library is, from this point forward, to be considered a nonsmoking area, Senior Vice President William J. Martin has announced.

Homecoming Door-Decorating Winners Announced

Madigan Library Admissions Physician Assistant The winners of the "Energize Your Pride" Homecoming Door-Decorating Contest have been announced by the Student Activities Office: First place − and winner of an oversized gourmet cookie cake, donated by Food Services − Madigan Library (Room 222); second place, Admissions; and third, Physician Assistant Program (inside doors of PA Building). Donkey Basketball Back on Campus

Last year's action Due to the great success of last year’s Donkey Basketball event during Homecoming, and thanks to overwhelming response from the Penn College community, Donkey Basketball is coming back. As part of the college's 2007 Homecoming celebration, Donkey Basketball will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in Bardo Gym. 

College Wins 'Spirit' Award at National Conference

The Penn College Wildcat and other spirited members of the college community gather outside the Madigan Library in the winning Higher One photo A Penn College photo won first prize in the 2007 HUG Spirit Awards as showing the "Most Higher One Spirit" Eric D. Ranck, manager of cash investments, and Sue A. Yeagle, student account specialist, attended the Higher One Users Group conference in New Haven, Conn., from Sept. 26-28. (The college partners with Higher One for quicker processing of student refunds.) The award was last on the list and described by Higher One representatives as "the most important award of the event," Ranck noted. The trophy and framed certificate will be on display in the Bursar's Office (SASC, Room 2098). The three-day conference was attended by 38 colleges and universities from throughout the country and was highlighted by keynote speaker John D. Walda, president and CEO of NACUBO (National Association of College and University Business Officers), and an appearance and greeting by John DeStefano Jr., the mayor of New Haven.

Penn College to Host NLNAC Accreditation-Review Visit

Penn College will host a site review for continuing accreditation of its LPN, RN and baccalaureate nursing majors by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. A meeting will be held at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Tiadaghton Room of the Thompson Professional Development Center. Anyone interested can meet the visiting team and share comments about the program in person. Godeke Exhibit Opens in College Gallery

A gallery patron studies the latest exhibit Jason Godeke discusses his work Art faculty, others gather for artist's talk Jason Godeke, spotlighted in the latest exhibit in the Gallery at Penn College (Room 303 of the Madigan Library) spoke about his work during the opening reception Tuesday evening. The artist, whose work will be displayed through Oct. 2, also is featured in a radio interview that will be rebroadcast in the coming weeks on WVIA-FM.
