Penn College Student/Faculty Cast to Present Musical Revue

“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” one of Off-Broadway’s longest-running musicals, will be presented Thursday through Saturday in Penn College's Klump Academic Center. A comedy that celebrates modern-day relationships – exploring “the joys of dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands and wives” – the series of related vignettes will be staged at 7:30 each night. The production, in conjunction with the college’s Student Activities Office, includes adult content and themes. Admission is free to Penn College students and employees; tickets are $5 each for the general public.
Employees, Alumni to Perform With Civic Chorus

Two Penn College employees and several alumni will perform "The Music of Faure" with the Williamsport Civic Chorus at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 142 Market St., Williamsport. Barbara Albert, program specialist for early childhood education, and Debra Buckman, assistant professor of environmental technology, sing with the chorus. Jim Buckman, a 1988 computer science graduate of Williamsport Area Community College, will perform as a soloist in the "Faure Requiem." Other alumni singers are Karen Gair (1997, occupational therapist assistant) and Nicholas Buckman (2002. mass communications). Paula Sager, a former Spanish teacher at Penn College, also sings with the chorus. In addition to the Requiem, the concert will feature three other Faure works: "Messe Basse," "Madrigal" and the "Cantique de Jean Racine." Tickets can be purchased at Otto’s Bookstore, Robert M. Sides Family Music Center or at the door. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for students/senior citizens if purchased before Nov. 15 and $12/10 on the day of the concert. The event is supported, in part, by the college.
Faculty Member Presents at Conference on Academic Integrity

William J. Astore, associate professor of history at Penn College, recently gave the plenary address at the Annual International Conference on Academic Integrity, held Oct. 16-18 at Washington University in St. Louis. The subject of Astore’s talk was “The Wider Dimensions of Academic Integrity.” His address was sponsored by the Center for Academic Integrity at Clemson University.
Faculty Member, Two Sons in Latest CTL Production

Brian M. McKeon, department head for natural sciences in Penn College's School of Integrated Studies, and two of his four sons are in the play, “Cheaper by the Dozen,” which opens Friday at the Community Theatre League, 100 W. Third St. McKeon plays the part of Dr. Burton; his oldest son, Brian Jr, is cast as Fred; and his youngest son, Kaleb, portrays Jackie. The show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday and from Nov. 12-14, and at 2 p.m. Nov. 15.
Baking and Pastry Instructor Takes Prize at Bread Contest

A baking and pastry arts instructor at Penn College was awarded a Judge’s Prize in the second annual America’s Best Raisin Bread Contest, sponsored by the California Raisin Marketing Board. Chef Charles R. Niedermyer, instructor of baking and pastry arts/culinary arts, was one of 30 finalists selected from across the country to compete in the contest, hosted by the American Institute of Baking in Manhattan, Kan. Niedermyer was named co-winner of the Judges Prize in the artisan category for his Dueling Raisins Bread, which features sun-dried and golden raisins, fresh lemon and vanilla bean.
Faculty Member Offers Graduation Address at SCI Muncy

Katherine A. Walker, assistant professor of drafting and computer aided design at Penn College, spoke at the Oct. 8 graduation ceremony at the State Correctional Institution at Muncy. Walker is a longtime member of the institution’s academic advisory committee. Her address encouraged the graduates to celebrate their achievements – made greater by the obstacles they overcame to attain them – and to use their experience to encourage others.
Funeral Mass Monday for Longtime Electrical Instructor

Joseph M. Younes, an instructor of electrical technology/occupations in the School of Construction and Design Technologies for 16 years, died Friday, Oct. 23. A Memorial Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd. Williamsport, with Msgr. Stephen D. McGough officiating. Memorial contributions in Younes' name may be made to The Gatehouse, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, or to the Joseph M. Younes Memorial Scholarship Fund, (for an outstanding electrical student), Penn College Foundation, 1 College Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Penn College Names Alumni Relations Director

Penn College has appointed Valerie L. Fessler as director of alumni relations. Fessler, who had been employed as development officer, direct marketing for the Geisinger Foundation, Danville, began her duties at the college on Oct. 19. “We are pleased to have Valerie become a member of the Institutional Advancement team at Penn College,” said Barry R. Stiger, vice president for institutional advancement. “I am looking forward to introducing Valerie to our alumni from the Williamsport Technical Institute, Williamsport Area Community College and Pennsylvania College of Technology.”
